The Memorial Committee helps members upon the death of a loved one with the necessary arrangements for burial, a memorial service, and if so desired, a reception afterward. Non-members may also rent the Meeting House for memorial services and receptions. For details on rentals, click on the House and Hospitality Committee link.
Together with the Property Committee, the Memorial Committee is responsible for maintaining the Burial Ground. Only members and their immediate families may be interred in our Burial Ground, which has been actively used since the 1830's. Most of the original members of Haverford Meeting are buried there, as well as many prominent Quakers, including several presidents of Haverford College. It is a quiet oasis in busy Haverford, where our Friends School students visit annually after they have studied the Latin American custom of observing the Day of the Dead.
The Committee has had long experience in planning memorials, has worked with different local funeral homes, and is pleased to help both members and non-members, especially those who are new to the experience of the sometimes overwhelming details that follow death.
